Local Beaches

Beaches in and Around La Manga Club

Although you do not automatically associate La Manga Club as the destination for a “beach holiday,” the resort has its own small cove and man-made beach at La Cala. Additionally, the surrounding region has a large number of beaches, offering the perfect retreat for those who like to feel sand beneath their feet, or frolic in the surf. The Mar Menor and the Mediterranean are nearby and have a number of good bathing beaches, whilst slightly further afield there is an even larger selection from which to choose.

A number of the beaches locally have been awarded the prestigious blue flag status. This is only awarded to those beaches that meet exacting standards of cleanliness and meet stringent environmental criteria, and are also provide safe bathing. The closest to La Manga Club are Playa Banco del Tabal and Playa el Pedrucho on La Manga strip.

Our list of beaches is by no means definitive, but it gives an idea of some of the local beaches.

La Cala

La Manga Club Resort´s very own beach,  is overlooked by a lovely restaurant bearing the same name (open seasonally). The beach is small, but easily reached by car or the seasonal bus service that operates around La Manga Club. It can also be reached on foot, but the hike back up the hill to the main part of the complex tends to put most people off.

Calblanque

Located close to the motorway that runs to La Manga, Calblanque is a lovely nature reserve consisting of secluded beaches, rocky bays and salt lakes. There are very few amenities, but it is the perfect retreat for nature lovers and those seeking privacy.

Mar de Cristal

The Mar de Cristal is located on the inward shore of the Mar Menor and has a good selection of water sports available. It is a short drive away from La Manga Club, and has a few snack bars and restaurants along its length. The water is shallow and safe for bathing.

La Manga

The strip is 18.5 kilometres in length and divides the Mediterranean from the Mar Menor. There are numerous beaches on either side of the narrow spit of land that divides both seas, though those on the Mar Menor tend to have safer bathing. The Mar Menor is relatively shallow, and temperatures are generally higher than on the mediterranean shoreline, but both coastlines offer excellent bathing opportunities. Beaches include Playa Cavanna, Playa Chica and Playa de Venceciola on the Mar Menor, and Playa del Estacio, Playa el Arenal and Playa de Galua on the Mediterranean. Many of the beaches have sun loungers and sun umbrellas which are available for hire at a small charge.

Mar Menor

The nothern end of the Mar Menor is well worth visiting as it has a choice of prestigious blue flag beaches, and small holiday resorts such as San Pedro del Pinatar and Lo Pagan. This section of the Mar Menor is dotted with wetlands, salt flats and mud baths. As well as offering safe bathing opportunities, the area is also renowned as a haven for wildlife with more than 100 species of birdlife nesting in the marine reserves that form part of the Mar Menor.  5 Minutes out of the resort going towards Cabo de Palos you will find 2 beaches on the Mar Menor which are Playa Honda and Playa Paraiso both have wheelchair and buggie access.  These are ideal for young families as they have no tide and even have beach bars and pedalo hire.

Further Afield

In addition to the beaches already mentioned, there are a number of coves between Cartagena and Mazarron which have sandy beaches. A couple of particular note are El Portus which has a small nudist section, though it is quite difficult to reach, and La Azohia close to Mazarron.
